Congressman Jim Baird, who represents Indiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of posts on his Twitter account highlighting developments in American agriculture and recognizing prominent figures in the field.
On July 24, 2025, Baird expressed support for changes at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), stating, "I'm proud that @SecRollins and @USDA are reorganizing the department to better align with its mission of supporting American agriculture and moving a portion of USDA’s operations to Indianapolis, IN. With our diverse and thriving agricultural industries and excellent land-grant".
Later that day, he honored Chuck Conner on the House Floor after his retirement as President and CEO of Farmer Cooperative. In his tweet dated July 24, 2025, Baird wrote: "I spoke on the House Floor to honor Chuck Conner, who recently retired after serving as President and CEO of @FarmerCoop. Chuck has been a national leader in agriculture for decades, and I hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement! https://t.co/eSLv5sLuaF".
In another post from July 24, 2025, Baird recognized Kent and Isabella Chism for their advocacy work: "I spoke on the House Floor to honor Kent and Isabella Chism, two outstanding Hoosiers who have used their experiences to become prominent voices for agriculture at the state, local, and national levels. Isabella Chism also serves as the @FarmBureau Women’s Leadership Committee https://t.co/erZ2d8lWx6".
Baird has represented Indiana's 4th District since 2019 after replacing Todd Rokita. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and served on the Putnam County Commission between 2006 and 2010. Born in Covington in 1945 and currently residing in Greencastle at age 77, Baird is an alumnus of Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967.
