On May 12, 2025, Congressman Baird expressed his gratitude towards the President of the United States for facilitating the return of Edan Alexander, an American hostage in Gaza. "Thanks to @POTUS's strong leadership, Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, is finally coming home." He extended prayers for Alexander’s safe return and acknowledged former President Trump's role in working to bring hostages back to their families.

Later that day, Baird announced the release of Edan Alexander after nearly 600 days in captivity by Hamas. " After nearly 600 days in Hamas captivity, Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage, has finally been released." He conveyed thoughts and prayers for Alexander and his family while thanking the President for efforts made to secure this outcome.

In another tweet on May 12, Baird highlighted National Police Week as a time to honor law enforcement officers. "This week is #NationalPoliceWeek, a time to honor our law enforcement officers for their sacrifice, service, and bravery." He expressed gratitude towards officers within Indiana's Fourth Congressional District for their role in maintaining community safety.

Jim Baird has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Todd Rokita. Prior to his congressional tenure, he was part of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and served on the Putnam County Commission from 2006 to 2010. Born in Covington in 1945 and currently residing in Greencastle at age 77, Baird holds a degree from Purdue University.
