Washington, D.C.— On June 13, 2023, Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) voted to overturn a Biden Administration rule put forward by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) that would reclassify firearms with a stabilizing brace as short-barreled rifles to require special registration or else be surrendered, destroyed, or confiscated with severe criminal penalties for otherwise law-abiding Americans.
“This effort by President Biden and the ATF to unilaterally change how firearms with stabilizing braces are classified and regulated represents yet another attack on lawful firearm owning citizens and another attempt to undermine our Second Amendment rights,” said Congressman Baird. “This gun-grabbing push will not keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals but will instead disarm Americans and Veterans with disabilities who rely on these stabilizing braces for self-defense as well as for sport and other purposes. For nearly two years, this administration and Congressional Democrats have attempted to rescind our Constitutional right to bear arms, and I will continue to fight against any legislation that infringes on law-abiding citizens’ ability to determine how best to defend themselves and their families.”
