Indiana Lyons Prepare For 5th Season In Hendricks County, Indiana

The Indiana Lyons of the American Basketball Association (ABA) are gearing up for the 2022-23 season in Hendricks County, Indiana, and basketball fans are not going to want to miss the fifth season of action in Danville's Bosstick Gym.

From October through March every year, Bosstick Gym in Danville is affectionately known as the Lyons Den. That's where the Indiana Lyons play their fast-paced high-scoring brand of ABA basketball in front of one of the largest -- and certainly the loudest! -- fan bases in the league.

I am the team's Director of Communications, and I'd like to share some insider information about the upcoming season.

Indiana Lyons Nighttime Golf Outing

The Lyons' preseason on the court begins in October, but they have a fun and important preseason activity lined up off the court before then: the Indiana Lyons Nighttime Golf Outing at Prestwick Country Club in Avon.

For $80 a person, golfers will enjoy dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, followed by a round of golf with an Indiana Lyons player. The first 10 foursomes to register for the outing will also earn a special prize!

There will be contests, prizes, gifts, a raffle and more throughout the evening. Proceeds from the golf outing will help offset costs for travel, lodging, uniforms and food for the players in the upcoming season.

Preseason

The preseason for the 2022-23 Indiana Lyons season begins on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. in Bosstick Gym when the team plays their annual First Responders game against local firefighters, police officers and EMTs. Thanks to a generous sponsorship by Deka Lash (Plainfield Commons), the First Responders game is free for the first 1,000 fans to attend!

This is a fantastic opportunity for families who have never been to a Lyons game to experience the atmosphere and excitement of ABA basketball in the Lyons Den!

(Insider tip: Want to know more about what to expect at a Lyons game? Click here.)

The preseason continues with the Chi-Town Rebels visiting from Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m., the Ohio Kings driving over from Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. and the Burning River Buckets coming in from Cleveland on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.

Tickets for preseason and regular season games (except for the free First Responders game) are a mere $10 a person, or $5 for children ages 10-17, seniors (ages 55+), active military members or military veterans. They can be purchased at the door on game days or online in advance by clicking here.

Children under the age of 10 enjoy free admission to every preseason and regular season game.

Inexpensive concessions and Lyons gear is available for purchase at every game, and returning fans will be interested to know that the team is expanding its concessions offerings this year!

Regular Season

The games that count in the quest for the ABA Championship begin on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. when the Lyons host the Missouri Capitals out of Columbia, Missouri in a Midwest Region clash.

The Lyons host a total of 13 regular season games from November through the first weekend of March. All games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with Saturday games starting at 5 p.m. and Sunday games starting at 4 p.m. Doors to the gym open an hour before tipoff for all preseason and regular season games.

After every game, stick around and take photos with the players, get their autographs, chat about the game and get to know the guys. Lyons players make a point of being very accessible after the final buzzer, and they love to interact with the fans.

Can't-Miss Games

All Lyons games are exciting in my humble opinion, but if I had to pick a handful of games that I think are going to be the most exciting this season, these would be my picks:

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. vs. the Burning River Buckets. Coming out of Cleveland, the Buckets are the defending champions of the North Central Region, and the Lyons barely escaped with a close win last season. This should be a hard-fought battle. Plus I'm partial to the Buckets because they're all really good people.

Saturday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. vs. the Music City Jazz. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, the Jazz clipped the Lyons in the final seconds of the 2021-22 Midwest Region Championship Game earlier this year in St. Louis. The defending champs will find some very hungry Lyons waiting for them in the Lyons Den.

Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. vs. the Chicago Fury. The Fury are perpetually ranked in the Top 5 of the ABA out of 150+ teams, so they are undoubtedly going to be a formidable opponent. The Lyons are going to need the Lyons Den to be packed and loud!

Saturday, March 4 at 5 p.m. vs. the Ohio Bruins. Visiting from Columbus, Ohio, the Bruins are another perpetually highly-ranked team that has played the Lyons tough over the years. This game is also Fan Appreciation Night, so there are sure to be special activities inside the Lyons Den!

Road games will take the Lyons to Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Postseason

As members of the tough Midwest Region of the ABA, the Indiana Lyons know that there is very little room for error throughout the regular season if they want to succeed in the Midwest Region Tournament and contend for the ABA's Final Eight Tournament and league championship.

The Lyons are used to success, having posted winning records in each of their four previous seasons and marching deep into the postseason in each of the last two years (the 2019-20 postseason was canceled due to the pandemic).

Assuming the team's hard work and perseverance translate to success again this season, the Midwest Region Tournament will likely take place in mid- to late-March. Dates and a location have yet to be announced by the league.

If they can win the Midwest Region Tournament, the Lyons will qualify for the ABA's Final Eight Tournament to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, over the weekend of April 13-15.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to support the Indiana Lyons at their Nighttime Golf Outing or at their preseason, regular season and postseason games this season! Go Lyons!
