Congressman Jim Baird, who represents Indiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, issued a statement following the shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Kirk is the head of Turning Point USA and was speaking at an event when he was shot.
“I was devastated to hear that Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. Charlie Kirk has been a leading voice for the conservative movement for years and is a man of deep faith. Political violence has absolutely no place in this country, and I wholeheartedly condemn this horrific shooting. I thank law enforcement and first responders for their swift apprehension of the suspect, and I ask everyone to please join me in praying for Charlie, his wife, and their young children during this difficult time,” Baird said.
Baird has served as the representative for Indiana’s 4th District since 2019 after replacing Todd Rokita. Before joining Congress, he served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and on the Putnam County Commission from 2006 to 2010. Born in Covington, Indiana in 1945, Baird currently resides in Greencastle. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette in 1967.
