Congressman Jim Baird, who represents Indiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing crime rates in Washington, D.C., and the nation’s approach to artificial intelligence policy.
On August 13, 2025, Baird wrote: "Failed Democrat leaders in Washington, D.C., have allowed crime to run rampant. D.C. residents do not feel safe in their city. D.C. had the fourth-highest homicide rate in the country in 2024. President Trump is cleaning up their mess and making D.C. safe!"
Later that day, he added: "Our constituents deserve to feel safe when they come to visit our nation's capital. This should not be controversial. That is why @POTUS is working to make Washington, D.C., safe again!"
On August 14, 2025, Baird shifted focus to technology policy with a post stating: "As a member of @housescience's Research & Technology Subcommittee, I know it is critical for the U.S. to lead in Artificial Intelligence (AI). @POTUS' AI Action Plan lays out key priorities to secure America's leadership."
Baird has served as Indiana’s 4th District representative since 2019 after replacing Todd Rokita and previously held positions in both the Indiana House of Representatives and Putnam County Commission. Born in Covington, Indiana in 1945 and currently residing in Greencastle, Baird holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University obtained in 1967.
