Congressman Jim Baird, who represents Indiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress and has held office since 2019, recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from public safety in Washington, D.C., to major legislative investments in agriculture.

On August 11, 2025, Baird commented on crime in the nation’s capital and recent executive actions: "Our nation's capital should be safe for residents and visitors. Instead, failed Democrat leaders in Washington, D.C., have allowed crime to skyrocket. Thank you, @POTUS, for taking action to make our capital safe again!"

The following day, August 12, Baird shifted focus to agricultural policy and Indiana's economic landscape: "Agriculture is the backbone of Indiana's economy. The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers historic investments in Indiana's farmers and ag industry, as well as our outstanding research facilities like @LifeAtPurdue."

Continuing on this theme on August 13, he outlined key provisions of the new bill: "The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers the largest investment in our farmers in at least a generation:

Strengthens the farm safety net

Increases reference prices

Invests in livestock biosecurity

More affordable crop insurance

Saves family farms from a Death Tax increase"

Baird’s comments reflect his long-standing connection with both Indiana’s agricultural sector and Purdue University—his alma mater—where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. Before serving in Congress since 2019, Baird was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and served on the Putnam County Commission from 2006 to 2010. Born in Covington, Indiana in 1945 and currently residing in Greencastle at age 77, Baird continues to emphasize agriculture as a critical component of Indiana’s economy through his legislative work.
