Congressman Jim Baird of Indiana’s 4th District participated in an event with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, Indiana Governor Mike Braun, and other state officials as the EPA announced a proposal to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding. The finding has been cited as the basis for federal regulations, including recent electric vehicle (EV) mandates.

The proposed rollback targets regulations that have led to what some officials describe as significant costs for American consumers and businesses. Congressman Baird stated, “Thanks to the outstanding work of President Trump, Administrator Zeldin, and Secretary Wright, the Environmental Protection Agency has made a commitment to roll back the sweeping Obama-era regulations that paved the way for the Biden Administration’s authoritarian EV mandates and have cost Americans over one trillion dollars,” said Congressman Baird. “Once again, President Trump’s Administration is standing up for common sense and American consumers and automakers. I thank Administrator Zeldin and Secretary Wright for their historic deregulation efforts that will boost the great American auto industry, implement sound energy policies, and lower costs for American families.”

Other attendees at the event included Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita; Indiana Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources Suzanne Jaworowski; Gary Langston, President of the Indiana Motor Trucking Association; and Beau Baird, Chairman of the Indiana House Environmental Affairs Committee.

Jim Baird has served in Congress representing Indiana’s 4th District since 2019 after succeeding Todd Rokita. He previously held roles in local government including service in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and on the Putnam County Commission from 2006 to 2010. Born in Covington in 1945, Baird lives in Greencastle and is a graduate of Purdue University.
