Glimco's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Tigers to Win over Manchester
After hitting two homers in yesterday's nightcap, Danny Glimco pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth against Manchester today and then blasted a walk-off, two-run homer to center to give DePauw a 10-8 win over the Spartans at Bishop Chatard High School. DePauw moved to 4-4, while Manchester dropped to 5-3.
With the score tied, 8-8, Glimco pitched the top of the ninth and stuck out the first two batters looking before getting a ground out to end the inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Cameron Macon was hit by a pitch and Glimco hammered a 1-0 pitch over the fence in center.
DePauw reached the board first as Kyle Boyer hit a ball to left center that glanced off the center fielder's glove for a triple. After Drew Straub was hit by a pitch, Carter Knoll delivered a two-out single through the right side that scored Boyer.
Manchester took the lead in the third as Zach White drew a one-out walk and moved to third on Rocco Hanes' double down the left field line. Joel Kennedy's two-out, two-run double down the left field line gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
Knoll led off the DePauw fifth with a double, advanced to third on Macon's single and scored on Glimco's grounder to even the score at 2-2.
Each team put two on in the sixth but couldn't bring them around, but Manchester's Aidan Stevens broke the tie in the seventh with a solo homer just to the left of straightaway center field.
DePauw regained the lead in the seventh as Cameron Macon led off by reaching on an error and then scoring on Danny Glimco's double to left center. Danny Sheehan also reached on an error that allowed Glimco to go to third and Boyer followed with an RBI single through the left side. Following a fielder's choice that forced Sheehan at third, Straub walked and Ty Sucher followed with a two-run single to take a 6-3 advantage.
Manchester's Vian Mariani was hit by a pitch with one out in the eighth and scored on Cole Filson's double down the left field line. Pinch-hitter Jackson Todor singled and Mitchell Baker walked to load the bases before Stevens tied the contest at 6-6 with a single up the middle. White's sacrifice fly gave the Spartans the lead and Hanes' double made it 8-6.
Macon led off the bottom of the eighth with a single before Glimco walked and both moved up after pinch-hitter Joey Webster's sacrifice bunt. Danny Sheehan's sacrifice fly scored Macon before Glimco stole third and came home on a wild throw to even the score at 8-8.
Five different Tigers had one hit each and Glimco finished with four RBI. Aidan Stevens led Manchester with three hits.
Glimco moved to 1-1 with the win, while Blake Lynch dropped to 0-1.
The Tigers travel to Lexington, Ky. on Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12 for games against Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Transylvania.
