Tigers Finish Second in Tim Hreha Memorial Indoor Invitational

The DePauw University men's indoor track and field team finished second at the second annual Tim Hreha Memorial Indoor Invitational. The Tigers totaled 160 points and had 17 individual top-three finishes, including an event sweep and record-breaking performance.

 

In the first home meet of his DePauw athletic career, first-year Grant Hunt took first in the 200-meter dash and recorded a new program record after finishing with a time of 22.86 seconds. Luke Patty held the previous record of 22.87, set in 2019. Just behind Hunt was teammate Ayo Laleye who ran the 200-meter dash in 23.50 for third place; Laleye would also come in second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.03 seconds.

In field events, the Tigers tallied eight top-three finishes, three of which were first-place finishes. Carson Watson earned first place in long jump with a jump of 6.61 meters; teammate Dylan Conner came in third in long jump after jumping 6.27 meters. Bennett DeCoursey tacked on another first-place finish in shot put, with a throw of 14.44 meters, while on the other end of the track, Garrett Elkins finished first in high jump after clearing a height of 1.90 meters.

 

The remaining top-three finishers in field events include Daniel Jansen, who finished second in pole vault with a height of 3.85, and his teammate Dylan Copeland finished third in the same event with a height of 3.25 meters. Rounding out the field events was Sam Prendergast, who finished third in weight throw, with a throw of 13.08 meters. 

 

Around the track, DePauw found success in both sprints and distance events. In the mile run, Griffin O'Neill came in second after running it in 4:28.19, followed by Ford Baker, who ran the mile in 4:29.41 for third. The Tigers swept the 800-meter run, with Jack Rutstein pacing the Tigers and taking first with a time of 2:03.60; O'Neil came in second(2:05.43), and in third was Baker (2:06.09). The final distance top-three finish came in the 3000-meter run, where Matt Vennemann came in second with a time of 9:04.66.

  

The Tigers wrapped the evening with a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay; Colin O'Malley, Conner, Watson, and Hunt ran it in 3:39.71.
