Tigers Make it Four-Straight with Win at Ohio Wesleyan

DePauw trailed by as many as seven in the third quarter, but rallied for a 73-63 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers improved to 11-7 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC with their fourth-straight win, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

The Tigers scored seven-straight late in the first and took a 19-13 advantage into the second period, but the hosts evened the count at halftime, 33-33.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the third by scoring the first seven points to take its largest lead of the game at 40-33 with 8:24 left in the third. The margin went back to two before the Battling Bishops pushed it back to seven at 47-40. Moira McGinley nailed a jumper and Riley Mont a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 47-45 before the hosts took a 50-47 lead into the final period.

The lead was still two at 55-53 after Alyssa Griner's jumper with 5:38 left, but the Tigers scored on their next five possessions as part of a 12-0 run. McGinley hit a three before Shannon added a layup and Mont a trey. Ava Hassel capped the run with a basket and two free throws to make it 65-55 with 2:03 left.

Kasey Schipfer ended the run with two free throws before Hassel knocked in a jumper to push the lead back to double digits. The hosts were within six in the final minute, but DePauw made all six free throws in the final 32 seconds to hold on for the win.

McGinley led  four DePauw double-figure scorers with 16 points followed by Shannon with 13, Mont with 12 and Hassel 11. Schipfer paced Ohio Wesleyan with 21 points and Griner added 17.

DePauw held a 32-25 rebounding edge as Mont and Schipfer each hauled down eight. 

The Tigers shot 52.1 percent from the field including 66.7 percent in the final period, while Ohio Wesleyan connected on 45.5 percent from the floor. DePauw hit 9-of-18 from three-point range to the Battling Bishops' 3-of-12.
