Tallying its fourth win in a row, the DePauw men's basketball team moves to 6-1 after beating the Benedictine University Eagles 67-57 on the road.

The Eagles set the tone early, sinking a three to start the first half, which was quickly answered by a three-pointer by Elijah Hales. From then on, DePauw and Benedictine traded baskets, with the Eagles maintaining the lead for most of the first half despite three ties within the last six minutes of the first half.

With 2:55 left before the half Hales sank both of his free throws to gain a 29-28 lead over the Eagles. A missed three and a defensive rebound at the other end led to the Tigers earning two more chances at the line, with Kyle Lillwitz sinking both, giving DePauw a three-point cushion. The Tigers would close out the first half leading the Eagles 35-28 after a dominant 7-0 run.

DePauw gave up three free-throw attempts in the first half while hitting 10-11 from the line. The Tigers held the Eagles to just 31.4 percent from the field despite giving up 12 points off turnovers and second-chance shots.

Benedictine cut DePauw's lead to just one possession quickly at the start of the second half but struggled to finish around the rim, allowing the Tigers' lead to balloon to as much as ten as time began to expire. In the second half, Camden Brown gave the boost DePauw needed to keep the Benedictine Eagles at bay. Brown put in 8 8 of his 10 points and recorded three of his four blocks in the second half, giving the Tigers a leg up on its opponents.

Hales and Grant Gohmann led DePauw in scoring with 11 points apiece. Hales pulled six rebounds, while Gohmann grabbed four rebounds and tallied one assist. Brown contributed significantly on both ends of the court, finishing the afternoon with ten points, six rebounds, an assist and steal, and four blocks. Grant Niego dished out four assists, while Ronald Johnson put up nine points, an assist, and two steals.

Benedictine's Brandon McCoy led the Eagles with 13 points off the bench, followed by Andrew Stokes and Trevor Montiel, who each put up ten points for the afternoon. Montiel played a crucial role in keeping Benedictine in the game finishing the afternoon with a double-double after collecting 11 defensive rebounds. He also dished out five assists and recorded three blocks and two steals.

Though Benedictine outrebounded DePauw 47-45 and had the edge in fast break points 12-3, the Tigers' ability to get to the line and sink free throws helped negate points lost elsewhere. DePauw finished the afternoon going 17-20 from the line, while the Eagles were just 3-7 from the free-throw line.

DePauw competes in its first North Coast Athletic Conference on Wednesday, November 30, at 7 p.m. EST against the Denison University Big Red.
