DePauw Finishes Third at Hyatt Place Tournament
Trailing by one at halftime, DePauw outscored Dubuque, 43-17, in the second half on the way to a 74-49 win in the third-place game of Augustana's Hyatt Place Tournament. DePauw moved to 2-2 overall, while the Spartans dropped to 2-3.
DePauw closed the first period with an 11-2 run to lead, 20-11, and extended the margin to 12 early in the second period.
The Tigers were scoreless for nearly six minutes as Dubuque scored 14 straight to take a 27-25 lead.The Spartans took a 32-31 advantage into the intermission.
The teams traded buckets to start the third and DePauw used a 10-0 run to grab a 47-36 lead. The Spartans briefly closed the gap to nine, but the Tigers scored the final six points of the third to extend the lead to 53-38. DePauw put the game away early in the fourth by scoring the first four points of the period.
Ava Hassel, an all-tournament team selection, led the Tigers with 16 points, while Moira McGinley followed with 13. Diana Burgher led DePauw with six rebounds with Maura Fitzgerald and Riley Mont dishing out four assists apiece.
Lauren Livingston paced Dubuque with 14 points and six rebounds.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 26, when it host Illinois Wesleyan in the opening game of the Midwest Challenge. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
