Tigers Roar Past Yeowomen in 4-1 Victory
The DePauw women's soccer team jumped back into the win column after beating Oberlin College 4-1 at home. The Tigers improve to 8-4-3 overall and 3-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Yeowomen drop to 7-6-1 and 3-2 in conference play.
In the 14th minute, Oberlin's Zoe Garver chipped a pass from Heather Benway just past St. John to go up 1-0. The Tigers would answer with its own goal following a cross by Annalise Grammel, which found Jess Purtee on the back post for the tying goal.
Tied 1-1 at the start of the half, DePauw took the lead in the 48th minute when Grammel got a through ball to Sydney Calisto, who flicked it past the Yeowomen's goalkeeper for a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers would stretch its lead by two more goals in the 83rd and 84th minutes. DePauw's third goal came off a give-and-go, where Whitney Wells played back to Sadie Gibson, who quickly sent it back into Wells for a one-touch finish. Scoring the fourth and final goal almost a minute later was Grammel, who scored from thirty yards out, finding the top left corner of Oberlin's net.
DePauw finished the afternoon outshooting Oberlin 13-3, while both teams earned three corner kicks across regulation.
Emma St. John recorded one save for the afternoon, while the Yeowomen's Benji had three saves in the net.
The Tigers are back at Reavis Stadium on Wednesday, October 26, against Wittenberg, with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
