Your Halloween Guide For Hendricks County Indiana

Your Halloween Guide For Hendricks County Indiana

As I’ve said before, I absolutely love holidays, particularly the ones in the fall and winter, but when it comes to Halloween, I’m kind of a stickler.

My goal is for everyone to have fun, keep it budget friendly and of course, be safe. This means using our creativity for the costumes with things around the house, finding new and unique experiences and only going to homes we know.

The kids don’t agree with these rules but we can debate them later.

What I love about all the events offered in Hendricks County, is the fact that we can get the best of both worlds. Numerous opportunities to wear those costumes, family-friendly experiences and safe environments.

Check out your guide to Halloween in Hendricks County in 2022.

The Smiley Morning Show Pumpkin Drop – Oct. 13

If you’ve never seen Smiley’s annual pumpkin drop, it is a unique experience and fun for all.

The ZPL radio host, Dave Smiley and staff will put on a show as they hoist the largest pumpkin you’ve perhaps ever seen, hundreds of feet in the air by a crane and release it to create a very messy, pumpkin splat in Plainfield’s The Shops at Perry Crossing parking lot.

Wear your costumes, play games, receive candy and prize giveaways and enjoy the morning with the community.

The Smiley Morning Show will broadcast live from The Shops at Perry Crossing beginning at 6 a.m., and the first "test pumpkin" will drop at 8 a.m., with the large grand finale pumpkin dropping around 10 a.m.

Scares on the Square – Oct. 28

From 6 to 9 p.m., join the Danville community celebrating fall at Scares on the Square with trick-or-treating with the local merchants on the square, food trucks, family-friendly activities and a scavenger hunt.

Costumes are encouraged and don’t forget to snap one of the many photo ops at the scarecrow displays in front of the Danville Courthouse.

The event is sponsored by Downtown Danville, Danville Kiwanis and Danville-Center Township Public Library.

Sat-Terror-Day – Oct. 29

The free annual event will invite the community out for Halloween fun between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Plainfield’s Talon Stream Park.

Wear your costume, take a hayride, dance to the music and get some fun photo ops at the event.

Not only will the kids enjoy bringing home their first bucket of candy from the Trunk-or-Treat giveaways at Sat-Terror-Day, but you can expect some fun activities involving pumpkins, costume contests and crafts.

Trail and Treat – Oct. 29

Just like Trunk-or-Treat but located on the walking trail at Williams Park in Brownsburg, families can enjoy safe trick-or-treating by community businesses and organizations, ready to hand out candy, promotional items and fun trinkets.

New this year is a best decorated booth contest for the community volunteers. Winners will receive a trophy and special treat.

The Trail and Treat event is 5 to 7 p.m., at Williams Park and the Halloween fun is offered by the Town of Brownsburg and Brownsburg Parks and Recreation.

Witches Ride – Oct. 30

The fourth annual Witches Ride will return with a Trunk-or-Treat event, sponsored by Rebel Studio and other local businesses in Avon.

Wear your costumes and enjoy an afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Avon Town Hall, collecting sweet treats, dancing with witches, snacking at the food trucks and more.

The winner of the free scarecrow contest will be announced Oct. 31.

Attending the event even benefits the Avon Public Safety Foundation’s K9 officers.

Ghosts and Goblins – Oct. 30

Washington Township Parks and Recreation will hold their annual Ghosts and Goblins event, adding a few additions to the trick-or-treating and food trucks.

Ages 7 and under are invited to attend from 1 to 3 p.m., and ages 8 and older can attend from 3 to 5 p.m.

There will be bungee trampolines, bounce houses, a haunted slide, Harry Potter mini train and much more to celebrate Halloween.

Don't forget to stop by the local vendor booths for some fun treats, too!

Can’t Miss Events & Trick or Treating Hours on Oct. 31

The Town of Avon staff will offer a special opportunity for daytime fun.

From 9 to 10 a.m. little ones that may find Halloween a bit too scary can stop by in costume to receive candy at the Avon Town Hall.

They’ve also reserved a time from 10 to 11 a.m. for friends of all ages that could benefit from a sensory awareness trick-or-treating.

Don’t forget to stop by the Brownsburg Police Department for some extra special fun from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The Haunted Police Station will offer a spooky and safe stop throughout the evening.

For those of us headed out to our neighborhoods for traditional Trick-or-Treating, here are the recommended hours on Oct. 31 for each Hendricks County community.

Town of Avon – 6 to 9 p.m.

Town of Brownsburg – 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Town of Plainfield – 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
