Congressman Jim Baird, who has been serving Indiana’s 4th district since 2019, shared his views on social media regarding SNAP work requirements and the impact of recent legislative measures. Baird, an alumnus of Purdue University and a long-serving public official with experience in both state and local government, addressed several issues relevant to his constituents.

On July 9, 2025, Congressman Baird posted about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements. He stated: “MYTH: SNAP work requirements are unnecessary. FACT: Only 28% of able-bodied adults on SNAP work. SNAP enrollment remains high even in a strong economy, including millions of able-bodied adults who could work.” This statement highlights his perspective that despite economic growth, many capable individuals remain reliant on assistance programs without employment.

The following day, July 10, 2025, he discussed a meeting with key figures from the agricultural sector. He wrote: “I recently met with @INFarmBureau President Randy Kron and @FarmBureau Women’s Leadership Committee Chair Isabella Chism to discuss the Farm Bill and how the tax cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill will help our farmers thrive!” This tweet underscores his commitment to supporting agriculture through fiscal policy.

Later that same day, Congressman Baird commented on the economic implications of proposed tax legislation for small businesses. He asserted: “MYTH: The One Big Beautiful Bill hurts small businesses. FACT: The One Big Beautiful Bill will make the Trump Tax Cuts permanent, including the 199A small business deduction, helping Main Street grow and thrive.” Through this message, he conveyed his belief that making previous tax cuts permanent would benefit smaller enterprises.
