Today, Congressman Jim Baird of Indiana’s 4th District expressed his support for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, also known as H.R. 1, after voting in favor of it. The bill is now set to be sent to President Trump for approval.
Baird highlighted the significant tax relief included in the bill, describing it as “the largest tax cut in American history for workers, families, and seniors.” He emphasized that the legislation would eliminate taxes on tips and overtime for millions of workers and reduce taxes on Social Security. Additionally, Baird noted that the bill aims to make substantial investments in rural America by expanding crop insurance, enhancing biosecurity measures, and increasing investment in the farm safety net. It also seeks to prevent an increase in the Death Tax that could impact family farms within his district.
The congressman also pointed out that the bill includes provisions for border security improvements and supports President Trump’s foreign policy strategy of peace through strength.
Addressing concerns about misinformation surrounding the bill, Baird stated: “This legislation strengthens federal programs for those who truly need them and enacts common-sense work requirements that a majority of Americans support.” He criticized the Congressional Budget Office’s assessment of the bill’s financial impact, arguing that it does not accurately reflect current policy. According to Baird, “the One Big Beautiful Bill reduces the deficit,” marking a return to fiscal responsibility.
